A teacher, a writer and idiosyncratic musician, who wants to fight back against the Cameron-Blairite tide that seems too oft to have engulfed blighty. have recently dabbled in short film-making, hope to do some editing, and possibly further personal, more avant garde film-making (influences: Shane Meadows, Peter Greenaway, Derek Jarman and Patrick Keillor). I have made music (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=175555837) recently in a dub-electro pop style, with dense sample-scapes. Pet Shops Boys-meets-Ghost Box might be considered an *aim* in terms of sound.
Passions include William Morrisian socialist politics, literature, music, mainly British television (esp. 1960-90 era) and film. Graduated in English (BA) at Cambridge University in June '04, and in Film (MA) at Northumbria University in late '05, and wondered a long time about where I was headed next. Curiously enough, after a stint working at a cinema, I am now a lecturer at Newcastle College, teaching General Studies and Key Skills - a very challenging posting which is enabling me to develop the craft of teaching very quickly.
Still living in Sunderland, but may not be now for long, having joined the ranks of the bourgeoisie, financially speaking. Newcastle-upon-Tyne awaits, as do all manner of creative projects.
I am making this Live Journal to make connections, in all sorts of ways. To dabble in critical writing on matters cultural and political (see my C.S. Lewis-Sudden Sway); to engage with like minds and establish new friendships. There will be some diaristic writing, much that may be politically didactic (e.g. for the pro-European cause, about which I feel strongly); there may be film reviews and raptures concerning certain records: all hopefully connected into an expansive world-view.
Nothing should be written about in complete isolation; 'nothing is ever forgotten'.
